December, 2023

We were very happy to receive a wonderful holiday card from so many of our friends at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden.

December 2nd, 2023

We ended our concert year with a holiday celebration thanks to our talented guests from Poland the “Ziemia Bydgoska” ensemble.

They played and sang traditional folk music while wearing authentic Polish attire. Also our piano, usually creating wonderful music, was responsible instead for holding all of the delicious sweets for our grateful guests.

Recently here at The Grove Foundation, we received an invitation to the concert of Aiden Tunas at the Danbury Music Center. Aiden, who we were first introduced to at our summer music class at The Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester, is a frequent attendee of our concerts and a lover of music. We were happy to receive the invitation and attend his performance. Pictured above with his parents, we gave him a bouquet of flowers after his performance as is customary with all musicians. Also he is pictured above with accomplished pianist Kathleen Tagg, as we are happy to connect professional musicians of this generation with aspiring ones of the future.

Music Discoveries Update

Today we want to take a moment to recognize a new video on Monika Krajewska discussing a controversial subject in music history, the castrati and baroque music.

These videos are created with the support of the Grove Foundation and the Polish American Foundation of Connecticut.

Take special note of the aria Monika sings at the end, an excerpt of “Gryzelda” by Antonio Vivaldi, one of the most difficult soprano pieces ever composed.

Our Saturday’s Sounds series continued with “Not only Chopin”.

Chopin is such a well known composer that we wanted to feature his music while also taking the opportunity to celebrate other famous Polish composers Karol Szymanowski and Grazyna Bacewicz and Witold Lutoslawski in recognition of their contributions.

In the 20th century, Poland took a prominent place in the musical and cultural life and Europe and beyond.

This concert was a celebration of the sounds of Poland over the last century.

Click HERE for more information about this, and all our other concerts.

We would like to take this opportunity to give a special thanks to Veronika Schreiber who, as artistic director of both Viva Bach Festivals, did an incredible job curating a match of compelling music and talented musicians able to perform it. She has our gratitude as we look forward to her work at next years festival.

“Folk Music Festival in Poland”

The Grove Foundation was happy to support The Polanie Folk Song and Dance Ensemble as they traveled to the south of Poland to perform at the “Festival of the Mountains”.

While there, they had the opportunity to learn more about Polish folk music and culture. They also visited Krakow, the medieval city, historical former capital of Poland.

It was a joy to expose youth of all ages, ranging from 5-19, parts of their heritage and culture that memories and knowledge of they can bring back with them to America.

“The Grove Foundation Summer Music Program”

This year we decided to start a music program in association with the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester. It offers an enriching experience for students as they embark on a journey to enhance their music listening skills. Through engaging activities such as instrument exploration, interactive sing-alongs, and immersive lessons on classical music, students will dive into a world of musical discovery.

The program fosters a deep appreciation for music, encourages active participation, and expands students' knowledge of diverse musical traditions. By exploring their listening abilities and experimenting with different instruments, young musicians develop a strong foundation for lifelong musical growth.

This program, as all our grants for The Boys and Girls Club of Northern Westchester, is to honor the memory of LOIS GROVE.
